In 1994 a group of Nashvillians came together to develop a safe living environment for women experiencing the devestation of a life of addiction, women needing a safe, drug-free home where they could begin a new way of life. YANA (You Are Never Alone) was made possible by the Music City Recovery Resources Foundation Inc. a non-profit organization founded in 1993. The committee began working on finding an appropriate location that could be renovated to meet their needs and communtity codes. They developed a daily living program that would support the goals of sober living and re-entry into the community as active and responsible citizens. Funds were sought to support the actual site and development, and a public relations campaign began to increase community awareness of the need for a home such as YANA.
YANA opened its doors in the fall of 1996, housing six women and staffed completely by volunteers. The women became entrenched in their recovery, established a healthy support network, and received job training through vocational rehab. In 1998 we were given the opportunity to move into a larger house and accomplished our goals of accommodating more women and expanding our services. Our professional staff has grown to include a clinical therapist, an office manager, an on-site nurse, and a financial advisor. In 2001 two additional houses were acquired, and as of 2002 YANA was now capable of housing 14 women. The program offers bi-monthly individual therapy, on-site Alcohol and Drug counseling, a weekly group, and educational group, Art Therapy, and Yoga. We believe that this clinically based program makes us special. At YANA we also have continuing education about the disease of addiction and education on basic life skills. There are 12 Life Areas, which we encourage residents to focus on: Recovery, Spirituality, Emotions, Physical Health, Decision Making, Family, Employment/Career, Healthy Support Systems, Finances, Legal, Recreation, and Values Clarification.
Recent studies show that of all individuals seeking treatment for substance abuse females are outnumbered four to one by males. Statistics show that of all women that seek treatment, 75% have a better chance of achieving long term sobriety when treatment is followed by an extended stay at a facility such as YANA. YANA (You Are Never Alone) is a non-profit organization, whose primary goal is to provide a safe and substance free living environment for women while they begin to rebuild their lives in early recovery. Relapse rates are lower among those individuals who are involved in a program that uses a multimodality approach in addressing the problems of each individual. We focus on all aspects of recovery while providing women with the resources necessary to learn how to live an addiction free life.
